02/07 PS3 streaming and firewalls
I recently acquired a Playstation 3 to serve both as my lone game console and bluray player. I wanted to get one of those media tanks as well – these gadgets where you can load video files and play them on your TV. But I discovered that you can download PS3 Media Server, turn on the Media Server function of the PS3 and my PC can now stream video and audio files directly to the PS3.
At first I couldn’t make it work, I tried everything but my PS3 just couldn’t detect my PC. Then I realized that even though I gave permission for the server in the Windows Firewall, what I really needed to do was to turn off the firewall completely, which allowed the PS3 to detect it. Then I just turned it back on. It’s a simple solution and it works.
