I recently acquired a Playstation 3 to serve both as my lone game console and bluray player. I wanted to get one of those media tanks as well – these gadgets where you can load video files and play them on your TV. But I discovered that you can download PS3 Media Server, turn on the Media Server function of the PS3 and my PC can now stream video and audio files directly to the PS3.

At first I couldn’t make it work, I tried everything but my PS3 just couldn’t detect my PC. Then I realized that even though I gave permission for the server in the Windows Firewall, what I really needed to do was to turn off the firewall completely, which allowed the PS3 to detect it. Then I just turned it back on. It’s a simple solution and it works.

Though there are many software developers in the field of security software, none have been around as McAfee which has been around since the days of the command-line PC. Many of today’s malware are reminiscent of malware from days gone by when viruses were the norm of the hacker. But from the innocent test of genius previous hackers showed, came more sinister actions such as the recurring DoS attacks that flooded servers the world over, leaving millions cut off from the rest of the world. Identity theft is also one of the more dangerous issues that have risen in the past years also brought to life by the movie “The Net”, where one person’s identity is substituted by another with little one can do due to the centralized data that is used for most banking and financial systems.
