Security experts have been trying to address the problem with thumb-drives and other gadgets such as multimedia players (iPod, iPhone and others) that can also be used to store files that is becoming the worst threat to company security due to their ability to contain malware that can be brought into their premises circumventing security software and firewalls. Cases of infections from within the company security software are on the rise and with these gadgets and gizmos growing ever popular, it may be time for security experts to try and implement some form of hardware-based security system that may address the problem.
Some companies have implemented strict rules regarding bringing in of such devices, but these can only go so far as employees are willing to comply with. With several PC’s in one single office, the potential for disaster is indeed huge and with no other option than to create a detection system to fully discover the existence of such gadgets and we would surely suffer repeatedly from such security breaches in the times to come.
